We are now Membrane. Building the future where software self-integrates.

The problem that keeps me up at night

Every day, I talk to engineering leaders who share the same frustration: their integration backlog is growing faster than their team. They’re burning months of engineering time on API plumbing instead of building the features that actually differentiate their product. Their on-call rotations are exhausted from dealing with breaking APIs and schema changes. And worst of all? They’re losing deals because they don’t have the integrations their customers need.

This isn’t just inefficient, it’s fundamentally broken.

In an era where AI can generate code, create art, and even reason through complex problems, why are we still manually writing boilerplate integration code? Why does every company need to become an expert in OAuth flows, rate limiting, pagination, and webhook handling for hundreds of different APIs?

They shouldn’t. And that’s why we’re building Membrane.

Why Membrane, why now

Today, I’m excited to announce that we’re rebranding to Membrane and unveiling our vision for the future of product integrations: AI that transforms intent into production-ready integrations in minutes, not months.

The name Membrane represents what we’re building: a intelligent, permeable layer that allows products to seamlessly connect and exchange information, just like biological membranes facilitate communication between cells. It’s the connective tissue that makes the modern software ecosystem work together.

Our vision: self-integrating software

We believe we’re approaching a fundamental shift in how software is built. Just as we’ve moved from writing assembly to high-level languages, and from managing servers to serverless, we’re now moving from manual integration development to AI-powered integration generation.

Our vision is simple but ambitious: Every SaaS and AI product should be able to understand and work with any other product, securely and automatically.

Imagine a world where:

  • Describing an integration in plain English generates production-ready code in 5 minutes
  • Your integrations self-heal when APIs change
  • You can scale to hundreds of integrations without scaling your team
  • Every integration comes with built-in testing, observability, and maintenance

This isn’t science fiction. We’re doing this today with Membrane.

Introducing Membrane: three components that change everything

We’re not just another integration platform. We’re not an embedded iPaaS trying to abstract away complexity behind a UI. We’re not a unified API forcing everyone into the lowest common denominator.

Membrane is AI for product integrations, and it’s built on three revolutionary components.

Membrane Agent: your AI integration builder

Think of Membrane Agent as your senior integration engineer who never sleeps. You describe what you need in natural language — whether it’s one integration or dozens at once — and the Agent understands your intent, choosing the correct API calls, field mappings, and data structures automatically.

The Agent doesn’t just generate code; it understands context. It knows when you need OAuth vs API key authentication. It understands the difference between REST and GraphQL. It handles pagination, rate limiting, and error handling without you having to specify any of it.

Example: Tell the Agent “I need to sync contacts from our customers’ HubSpot to our product whenever they’re updated” and it builds the complete integration — webhooks, data transformation, error handling, and all.

Membrane Engine: the infrastructure that makes it production-ready

Anyone can generate code with AI. The hard part is making it work reliably at scale. That’s where the Membrane Engine comes in — it’s the configurable infrastructure layer that powers every integration.

The Engine provides:

  • Actions for API operations
  • Flows for complex multi-step processes
  • Events/webhooks for real-time updates
  • Data collections for caching and state management
  • Universal API models for consistent data structures
  • Field mappings and schemas for accurate data transformation

Think of it as the difference between having ingredients and having a fully-equipped kitchen. The Engine includes built-in testing, observability, automated troubleshooting, and self-healing capabilities. When an API changes, the Engine adapts automatically.

Membrane Packages: your integration artifacts

The final piece is what you actually deploy: Membrane Packages. These aren’t configurations locked in our platform — they’re complete, self-contained integration packages that live in your codebase.

Each Package is:

  • Self-contained: Everything needed to run the integration
  • Documented: Auto-generated documentation for your team
  • Version-controlled: Lives in your Git repo with full history
  • Observable: Built-in logging, metrics, and tracing
  • Extensible: Full source code you can customize
  • Portable: Run it anywhere — your cloud, our cloud, on-premise

You own these packages completely. No vendor lock-in, no black boxes. If you decided to stop using Membrane tomorrow (though we can’t imagine why!), your integrations would keep running.

How these work together

Here’s the beautiful part: these three components work in perfect harmony.

  1. You describe your integration needs to Membrane Agent
  2. The Agent leverages Membrane Engine to configure the integration with all the necessary components
  3. You receive a Membrane Package ready to deploy in your environment

It’s like having an expert integration team that works at the speed of AI, builds on battle-tested infrastructure, and delivers code you completely own.

What makes this different

We embrace the developer workflow

Membrane works where developers work: in their IDEs, with their coding agents (Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf), through their CI/CD pipelines. If you prefer it this way, we’re not asking anyone to learn a new platform. We’re enhancing the tools they already use.

We are striving towards automated maintenance

Our proprietary knowledge base understands how thousands of APIs work in the real world. In the near-term, when APIs change, Membrane won’t just alert you, it will automatically adapt. This isn’t just automation; it’s intelligence.

We scale without limits

Need to add 50 integrations this quarter? Generate them all at once. Need per-customer variants? The Agent handles that too. Need to maintain hundreds of integrations? The Engine’s capabilities have you covered.

The journey here

This rebrand represents more than a new name, it’s the culmination of years of learning from hundreds of engineering teams about what they actually need from an integration platform.

After over 3 years of being Integration App, we learned that:

  • Speed matters more than features. Teams would rather have a working integration today than a perfect one next month.
  • Ownership matters more than convenience. Developers want code in their repos, not configurations in someone else’s platform.
  • Reliability matters more than breadth. One integration that never breaks is worth ten that need constant maintenance.

These insights shaped every decision in building Membrane.

What this means for you

If you’re drowning in integration requests, losing deals to missing connectors, or burning engineering cycles on API maintenance, Membrane changes everything:

  • Individual developers can ship integrations without becoming API experts
  • Startups can compete with enterprises on integration coverage
  • Scale-ups can handle growth without linearly scaling their integration team
  • Enterprises can modernize their integration infrastructure while maintaining control

We’re already seeing teams ship in 5 minutes what used to take 3 weeks. We’re seeing 90% reductions in integration-related incidents. We’re seeing companies win deals they would have lost.

Join us in building the future

The future of software isn’t about writing more integration code — it’s about describing what you want and having AI build it correctly. It’s about software that understands other software. It’s about focusing on your core product while integrations handle themselves.

This is the future we’re building with Membrane.

To our existing customers: Thank you for trusting us on this journey. Everything you love about our platform is not only staying, it’s getting dramatically better.

To those still building integrations the old way: I invite you to try Membrane. Generate your first integration in 5 minutes. See what it feels like when integrations starting building themselves.

Let’s build something amazing together

We’re at the beginning of a fundamental shift in how software connects. The same AI revolution that’s transforming code generation is about to transform integrations. And with Membrane, you don’t have to wait for that future. you can build with it today.

Because in 2025, you shouldn’t be writing integration code or debugging unreliable AI-generated code. You should be shipping products.

P.S. - A note to our community

To the developers who’ve been manually crafting integrations, debugging webhook payloads at 2 AM, and maintaining endless connector code: We built this for you. Your expertise isn’t becoming less valuable — it’s becoming more strategic. Instead of writing boilerplate, you’ll be designing integration strategies. Instead of fixing broken webhooks, you’ll be shipping features.

The future isn’t about replacing developers. It’s about amplifying what you can build.

Welcome to Membrane. Let’s build that future together.
